Connection Through Creativity: A Conversation with Glasgow Band AndSofia
Written by Imogen Sullivan | July 2025
From acoustic beginnings to sold-out shows, AndSofia are carving their place in Glasgow’s vibrant music scene. Formed in October 2023 by three cousins- Christy, Skye, and Charlie- the band began with raw, heartfelt acoustic sounds that laid the foundation for their distinct style. Their line-up was complete by January 2024 with the addition of close friend Millie on drums, adding even more depth to their evolving sound.
Since then, AndSofia have made serious strides, headlining a sold-out show at the iconic King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut during the New Year’s Revolution Festival, releasing their second single ‘I Know A Place (Runaway)’ in April, and launching their first run of merch. This summer, they’re set to play for Linlithgow Rugby Club and perform at The Old Hairdressers for a charity fundraiser supporting humanitarian efforts in Gaza. Between gigs, they’re busy writing and recording new material, with plans to take their music further across the UK. You can listen to them on Spotify, which is how I originally stumbled on their tune 'Change' and loved it or Youtube and follow them on Instagram @AndSofiaBand.
AndSofia explains that their brand identity has evolved organically, rooted in the close-knit bond they share as a family. Cousins Charlie, Christy, and Skye grew up together, and when Millie joined the band in 2024, it felt like gaining an extra family member. This description was really sweet and made me smile, it gives a real sense for their strong relationship. “We all have similar styles in fashion and interests, which helps create our brand’s identity naturally,” they add.
When asked, “Was there a defining moment, personal or something you witnessed, that shaped your brand ethos?”, the band reflected on their shared experiences in the music industry. “We’d say that working in the industry as a band has really shaped us-both the good and bad experiences are what we use to grow and better ourselves as musicians.”
When asked, “Can you recall the first time your work made a real, positive impact on someone close to you? What was that like for you?”, AndSofia reflects on a moment that affirmed the emotional power of their music. While their bond as a band is deeply rooted in family, they recall an early experience that extended beyond that- bringing friends and family together to sing along to their songs. It was a moment that created an environment of connection and joy, one that reached beyond their inner circle. “It was one of the first times we really felt the impact of what we were creating,” they say. “To see people we care about enjoying our music and feeling part of something with us- it’s what makes us proud and pushes us forward.”
Just as they cherish the strength of their own family ties, AndSofia are determined to build that same sense of connection with their listeners. “It’s our main goal to create a strong fan base and connect to people through our music, and it’s encouraging to see people supporting us through our journey.”
Building on the theme of connection, I asked, “What about your wider community — do you remember a time when your work created a positive ripple beyond your immediate circle?” AndSofia shared that performing at fundraisers has become a meaningful part of their journey as a band. Giving their time and music to support various causes is something they not only value, but genuinely enjoy.
Beyond live shows, the band also reflected on the emotional impact of their appearance on SubCity Radio, where they opened up about their background and experiences. “We talked about some deep themes that are personal to us, and we hoped they would resonate with listeners who might relate,” they said.
When asked, “Where do you consistently draw positive inspiration from?”, AndSofia spoke about the importance of lived experience. Much of their creativity stems from navigating life as young adults- observing, feeling, growing- and playfully bouncing ideas off one another. “We inspire each other,” they say, “and love using each other’s creative ideas to form lyrics.”
Musically, AndSofia also draw influence from legendary acts like Pink Floyd and The Stone Roses, and are inspired by distinctive blues guitar techniques, blending classic elements with their own evolving sound.
But beneath the fun and collaboration lies a deeper emotional current. “In 2022, we lost a very dear family member- someone who always inspired us musically and pushed us to pursue our dreams of being musicians.” There’s an incredible power in knowing that their music carries the spirit of someone who fuelled their ambitions.
When I asked, “Looking at the world right now, there’s no shortage of issues- how do you, as a creative, use your work to disrupt or respond to something that matters? And how can others be part of that movement?”, AndSofia responded with a clear belief: “We believe that everyone should be using their platforms to speak out on serious matters to spread awareness.”
For the band, creativity isn’t just a form of expression- it’s a way of connecting with others on a deeper level, especially in times of injustice or crisis. At a recent performance in April, they used the stage to speak out against the UK Supreme Court’s ruling of the term “woman” in the Equality Act- a decision they felt excluded and harmed transgender women. By sharing their perspective publicly, they weren’t just making a statement; they were inviting their audience into a space of compassion, solidarity, and a shared purpose.
Their performance work has also extended into humanitarian support, including fundraising for UNICEF to aid those suffering in Gaza. These moments reflect the band’s core belief that music is more than sound- it’s a bridge between people, causes, and communities. Through their creativity, AndSofia are helping others feel seen and supported.
Creating a positive impact on others through creativity is not only powerful- it’s deeply personal and rewarding. Wanting to offer readers a way to begin that journey themselves, I asked AndSofia: “If you could leave people with one simple way to use their own creativity to create positive change- no matter how small- what would it be?”
“You never know who can relate to your experiences and thoughts,” they shared. “If anyone wants to start songwriting, something as simple as writing down a few thoughts in your Notes app is a start.”
Their message is clear, connection through creativity can start with reflection and the courage to share. “Inspire yourself and romanticise life a little bit- then put yourself out there,” they add. “So many people hold back in fear and don’t realise the impact they could be making if they just believed in themselves.”
AndSofia’s creativity isn’t just about making music and seeing what happens- it’s about a desire to build connections and relate through story-telling. Their story, rooted in family ties and shaped by real-life challenges, shows how art can bring people together and inspire meaningful change. Even the smallest creative acts- whether a song, a story, or simply taking that first step- can create a significant ripple effect. And sometimes, those ripples start with just daring to try.
